Using the Metacaulk Firestop Joint Strip is easy. First, measure the width of the concrete or masonry control floor and wall joints you need to seal. Make sure the joints are up to 2' (51 mm) wide. Then, cut the joint strip to the appropriate length. You can use it with plastic pipe penetrations too. Just place the strip in the joint and it's ready to work. It will form a strong char to block flame, smoke, and hot gases. When using it, always make sure to use it with a UL - listed sealant as recommended. As for maintenance, there's not much you need to do. Just check the strip occasionally to make sure it's in good condition. If you want to change its appearance, you can cover it with standard architectural caulk in any color you like. Keep in mind that this product has multiple - staged intumescence, which makes it very effective in fire - stopping. And it's certified with Clean Air Gold and has compliance certificates like FM Approvals 3971 and 4990.
